Chaplaincy

Welcome to The Chaplaincy Services Department of the P.C.E.A Tumutumu's Hospital provides patients, their friends and family as well as the P.C.E.A Tumutumu staff and P.C.E.A Tumutumu Nursing students with emotional, spiritual, and religious support.

When should I meet the Hospitals’ chaplain?

For patients and families:

  • If you would like to talk to someone about your faith
  • If you are struggling with the meaning of your illness
  • If you are faced with difficult treatment choices
  • If you would like to request a religious ritual specific to your tradition or situation
  • If you have received difficult news
  • If you are far from home and would like support
  • If you are anticipating surgery
  • If you would like someone to pray with you or bless you
  • If you are grieving a loss
  • If you are feeling anxious or fearful, hopeful or grateful

For staff and Students:

  • If you, yourself, are dealing with a spiritual issue
  • If you would like someone to pray with you or bless you
  • If you would like information on a patient’s religious tradition in order to provide competent care.
  • If you have religious or ethical concerns about the work you perform
  • If you would like to arrange a memorial service for a deceased colleague

Wards

The P.C.E.A Tumutumu Hospital has a 203 ward bed capacity with outstanding facilities and professional nursing care.  All wards are headed by a Charge Nurse and supported by senior nurse, nurses, student nurses and cleaning staff.

Surgical Wards

These are wards that take care of patients with surgical conditions which include laminectomy, craniotomy, septoplasty, appendicectomy, hysterectomy, maxillofacial surgery among others.

 Medical Wards

These wards take care of patients suffering from medical conditions which include hydrocephalus, diabetes, hypertension, ulcers, liver diseases, CVAs, gout among others. 

Obstetrics Ward

These wards take care of expectant women, mothers and their newborn infants. The wards include Maternity and labour wards and nursery.

Paediatric Ward

This ward takes care of children under the age of twelve years both male and female. The ward has a capacity of 32 beds.

Critical Care

Critical care nursing wards comprise of the Intensive Care Unit , Renal Unit and the High Dependency Unit. Both wards take care of both surgical and medical patients who are critically ill.

Operating Theatre

The P.C.E.A Tumutumu Hospital provides preanesthetic evaluation for inpatients and anesthesiological care for all surgical patients including cardiac, general, pediatric, neurological, and orthopaedic patients. Patient care of the highest order is tailored to patient disease and surgical requirements as indicated.

The Main Operating Room Service also provides anesthesia care for nonoperative procedures throughout the hospital.
The Operating Room is responsible for providing a clinical setting equipped with progressive technology, providing current practices of surgery, anesthesia and Perioperative nursing.
